Chin Up Chin Up will call it a day on Friday, May 15th at the Empty Bottle. We’re honored to play on this bill and will be trying out some new songs that we’re planning to record in Portland at the end of May. CUCU is a phenomenal band and our friendship with them goes way back. We’re sad to see them go but also excited that Jeremy, Greg and Bobby have just released the first Vacations record which is great. I’m partial to “Solar Tongue”. Nathan and his wife Cindy have just released a new baby girl. Needles to say, they’re all pretty busy now.
Pete will be pulling double duty at this show with us and Tight Phantomz. Should be a good one - I’m sure the Jameson won’t be spared that night. More details to come.
So…we play our main set…struggle through a couple of requests that Pete doesn’t knw yet….Birth Rites plays and kills it. We get handed some cash for our part…we turn that over to Pete so he can use it for gas money. Pete instead calls an audible and converts that gas money into a huge stack of Gumby’s pizzas at 3am in the morning. Pete Croke…you made the right call!

Hey Iowans,
Come see us play this Saturday, March 7th in your fair city w/ Birth Rites, Oceans, Castevet and Noumenon. BYOB. It’s going down Across from Mercy Hospital (Dodge/Market) at 218 N Dodge. Oceans and Birth Rites both have awesome albums that are about to come out. This is the real deal!

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be doing a Daytrotter session on February 7th at the famed Futureappletree Studio One in downtown Rock Island, IL which is just a couple of frigid hours away from the igloos we call home in Chicago. The session will be posted at a later date but we’re pretty excited about it and thought we’d share. We’re working hard to complete some new songs by 2/7.
Also, Certain People I Know will be joining us on the bill at the Beat Kitchen on 2/19 . CPIK features Bob Nanna and Damon Atkinson (who has his own wikipedia page) from certain bands you’ve probably heard of. It’ll be great to see them playing together again. Also on the bill are Milwaukee’s The Vega Star - they’re our pals and we’ll be playing with them on 2/20 (the very next night!) in Milwaukee at the Cactus Club.

Hi everyone,
It’s been such an exciting year for the band and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has listened to us, bought a record or a shirt, paid for a download, stolen a download or had the patience to sit through the Christmas radio play. We couldn’t do this without your support and we thank you for your interest in our little band.
This year we accomplished more than we ever thought we would. We were able to join the ranks of other fine artists on Badman Recording Co, who graciously supported the digital release of our album “Not Even Dust”. Being affiliated with Badman is something that we’re extremely proud of and we can’t thank Dylan enough for all of his help in recording and getting word out about the record. Also, special thanks to DJ STV SLV and TTD Records for helping out with the CD release and distribution of NED. Big, big thanks to JP of Little Priest for her tireless PR efforts!
Secondly, we were blown away the nice response people had to NED. We’d like to thank all of the journalists and radio stations who gave the album a review or a spin this year. There are more people making music now than ever before and we appreciate your time and attention.
The most important people to thank are our families, fiancees, girlfriends (Pete has 3!) etc. who’ve been so supportive over the years. I mean, it’s not like we set off for the moon or something - and we haven’t been researching a cure for death, but having understanding family members support musical endeavors is a rare and wonderful thing.
Special shout out to founding member Nate Bartley who left to pursue his dreams of becoming an architect in a very prestigious and rigorous program. Nate’s talents are many and he’s responsible for the great SO rain-ghost shirts and many of our show posters over the years. Natron 4ever.
Also, big thanks to Pete Croke for stepping up and strapping on the bass for us. Pete’s an old friend and I’m surprised it’s taken us this long to play in a band together. Pete has played a huge role in the writing of our upcoming album and we’re really glad to have him in the band! Plus, he has a sweet Emperor Cabinet that dwarfs our puny Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amps.
We’ll have an announcement soon about something neat that’s going to happen in January. Also, in February will be playing a few shows with our Milwaukee pals The Vega Star. As always, we want to play your town so e-mail us via the contact info on this site.
Finally, to the person reading this page, thanks so much for making this such a wonderful year for us!
Your friends,
Sleep Out

Our show at Ronny’s with Olehole was a good time. We got to debut our new bass player Pete and see a lot of old friends. Thankfully, Ronny’s hasn’t changed much - the scent of piss and ball sweat still permeates its interior and seemed to be choking the life out of those attendees who were not yet drunk . On the upside, they have a new PA and some drywall. Yes we can.
We’ll be recording our Coach House Sounds session on 11/30 and it will be available shortly thereafter for consumption via podcast. We’re excited about potentially recording a couple of new songs during the session. We have a handful of new songs that we have high hopes for.
Also, we’ll be playing at Schubas on Thursday, December 11th with the War on Drugs (Secretly Canadian) and are excited to be playing that show. Schubas is such a wonderful place to play and we are looking forward to it.
Thanks to everyone around the world who has ordered a CD, legally or illegally downloaded “Not Even Dust” or sent us an e-mail with their thoughts about the album. It means a lot to us to know that you are listening and we can’t wait to record album number 3!!!
In the meantime, here’s a pic of us sitting outside of the Type Foundry in Portland, OR last summer. Because, why not.

and also, here’s a video of us playing “Not Even Dust” at the Beat Kitchen back in June at our record release show with Weinland. I like the way this one is evolving live and especially like Eddie’s keyboards on it.
Hello - just wanted to give everyone a quick update on what we’ve been up to. Our bass player Nate has gone back to school to become an architect and thus needs to take a more passive role in band activities. Luckily, our good friend Pete (of Reds & Blue and Tight Phantomz) plays a mean bass and is gonna be holding down the low end for us. Pete has been a friend of mine and the band’s for years now and we are really excited to have him on board.

We have a lot of new songs at the moment. We’re working with Pete to finalize a few of them right now and we’re really excited with what we’ve come up with. We hope to debut some of them on our Coach House Sounds session which takes place October 19th and will be broadcast in the week after that.
We’re playing a show with our friend Brian Moss’s (hanalei / the ghost) new band “Olehole” at Ronny’s on Monday, November 3rd. Come on out and have some election day-eve beers with us.
